I feel incredibly proud and honored to be part of the 197th Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture Annual Exhibition. The largest and longest-running exhibition of contemporary art in Scotland, the RSA Annual Exhibition is the prestigious highlight of visual arts in Scotland and beyond.
It’s such a great honor to see my name in the list of Scotland and the world’s prominent artists and architects! My work that has been selected for this occasion is “The Golden Lotus Lake” (2019) which I photographed the lotus lake in my home town Hanoi.
The RSA Annual Exhibition provides a platform for contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects.
This year the exhibition will encompass both the physical and digital, combining the exhibition of artworks on display in the galleries with those shown online, some exclusively designed as such and others as companions to work in the galleries.
About my work “The Golden Lotus Lake”:
The lotus flower is the national symbol of Vietnam and some other Asian countries that practice Buddhism. This flower symbolizes beauty in the dark, purity and strength of the heart. Although it grows in a dirty environment and the water in which it is rooted is muddy, the lotus rises above all to bloom in beauty towards the sun. This symbol of overcoming the material world represents the triumph of light over darkness.
The original photograph was taken in Hanoi, Vietnam. The artwork was created based on photography and digital techniques using painting textures, inspired by the traditional Vietnamese techniques of lacquer painting.
